Cellulose acetate butyrate is a white crystalline powder. The melting point is 127-240ºC. The density is 1.25g/ml.

Adding CAB to aluminum, copper, silver, and other metal coatings can accelerate the release of solvents from the paint film and significantly shorten the contact drying time.
Due to the presence of hydroxyl groups in CAB, it can react with amino resins in the presence of acid catalysts. It does not affect its own hardness and gives the coating flexibility. Adding CAB to coatings can enhance wear resistance and color stability.
